Please, tell me\u00a0if\u00a0I\u2019m in\u00a0the wrong here because\u00a0I just can\u2019t seem to\u00a0see my\u00a0fault. Here\u2019s what happened.<\/p>\n

My daughter-in-law recently turned 30, and to celebrate, she invited my husband and me to a fancy restaurant she \u201cloves\u201d. The place was beautiful, sure, but you could tell right away it was one of those trendy,\u00a0expensive for the sake of\u00a0being expensive<\/i>\u00a0places.<\/p>\n

But whatever. It was her birthday, and she seemed excited, so\u00a0I\u00a0smiled, dressed\u00a0up, and went.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll admit, I\u00a0already had a\u00a0feeling the bill would be\u00a0too much, but\u00a0I figured we\u2019d each pay for ourselves or\u00a0maybe split the bill. But nope: when the check came,\u00a0she paid the entire $800<\/strong>\u00a0for everyone\u2019s dinner.<\/p>\n

Wait, what? She had just dropped $800\u00a0on dinner, and now she wanted me\u00a0to\u00a0pay a\u00a0ridiculous $150\u00a0tip, like it\u00a0was no\u00a0big deal. And, above all, why should\u00a0I pay the tip for a\u00a0dinner\u00a0I was invited<\/i>\u00a0to? So\u00a0I\u00a0said, calmly,\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m sorry, I\u00a0don\u2019t think the service was worth that much. I\u2019m not comfortable covering the tip.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

And then I\u00a0left. No\u00a0shouting. No\u00a0passive-aggressive comments. Just a\u00a0polite refusal and a\u00a0quiet exit. I\u00a0thought maybe she\u2019d be\u00a0a\u00a0little annoyed, but\u00a0I figured she\u2019d understand. Well, I\u00a0figured wrong.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I\u00a0was stunned. Over a\u00a0tip? Now my\u00a0phone\u2019s gone quiet. My\u00a0DIL won\u2019t text back. My\u00a0son is\u00a0furious.
