The first time he hit her was after he discovered that Emily\u2019s mother had left her an inheritance in a private trust. It was not a massive fortune, but it was enough for Mark to imagine paid gambling debts, covered loans, and a fake business funded with someone else\u2019s money.<\/p>\n
The second time happened when Emily refused to sign mortgage papers.<\/p>\n
