“Maybe.”

“What about the grandchildren?”

“They’ll be fine.”

My youngest daughter, Natalie, looked genuinely hurt.

“You’re choosing travel over your family?”

I smiled sadly.

“No. I’m choosing to finally meet myself.”

Nobody understood.

My first stop was Portugal.

Then Spain.

Then Italy.

For the first time, I ate breakfast when I wanted, slept until I wanted, and walked through streets without wondering whether somebody needed me.
