“Mom said you’d understand.”

That sentence hurt more than anything else.

Not because my sister wanted a place to stay.

But because they had apparently discussed my future without me.

My own mother had decided where I would live.

My sister had decided which bedroom she wanted.

And somehow, I was expected to accept it quietly.
