I pushed the paper back.

The room went silent.

The attorney frowned.

“You understand this is an extraordinary offer?”

“I do.”

“Then why refuse?”

I smiled.

“Because you don’t actually need my land.”

He stopped smiling.

“You need access to my land.”

Nobody spoke.
