My Parents Dragged Me Into Court to Evict Me From the Home I Had Rebuilt — Then My 7-Year-Old Daughter Exposed Their Secret

For most of my life, I was the person my family called when something needed fixing.

If my father needed help with a bill, he called me.

If my mother needed money for an unexpected expense, she called me.

If my younger sister, Chloe, made a mistake, somehow I was expected to help clean it up.

I never complained.

I told myself that was what family did.

You helped when you could.

You gave when you had enough.

And sometimes, you gave even when you didn’t.

But I never imagined that one day the same people I had spent years helping would stand in a courtroom and try to take away the only home my daughter and I had left.

Two years ago, my seven-year-old daughter, Norah, became gravely ill.

My attorney explained that I had paid for substantial improvements and that the situation was more complicated than my parents were suggesting.
