Three slow taps against my front door.

I stood frozen in the hallway, staring through the glass.

Behind the door stood four people I had spent the last year trying not to think about.

My mother.

My father.

My ex-husband.

And his wife.

They were dressed too carefully for a Saturday afternoon. My mother held a bouquet of flowers wrapped in cellophane. My father had his hands folded behind his back.
