The Woman With the Key

I never thought I would become the kind of woman who watched her own house from behind a parked car.

But that morning, everything changed.

It started at the mailbox.

My neighbor, Linda, caught me just as I was leaving for work.

She looked nervous.

“Can I ask you something?”

I smiled. “Sure.”

She glanced toward my house before lowering her voice.

“I think your husband is having an affair.”

For a second, I honestly thought she was joking.

“My husband?”

She nodded.

“Every time you leave for work, a car pulls into your driveway. Same car. Same time. Almost every day.”
