Jones’ wife, Alma Viator, confirmed his passing in a heartfelt Facebook post on Sunday, August 9, 2026. Alongside a photo of the actor sitting with his dog, she wrote, “I lost the love of my life today.”

Jones also appeared in other television and film projects, including “Smokey and the Bandit,” “Moonrunners” and “As the World Turns.” But acting turned out to be only one chapter in a career that would eventually take him somewhere few TV stars ever go.
