When I first saw the property listing, I thought I had found the deal of a lifetime.

The price was unbelievably low, almost too low. The real estate agent gave me a vague explanation: the previous owner had disappeared several years earlier, and after months of searching, nobody ever found him.

Most people would have walked away.

But I saw it differently.

To me, it was just a quiet piece of land surrounded by trees, streams, and wildlife. I wasn’t looking for trouble. I wanted somewhere peaceful where I could escape from city life and spend weekends hunting, camping, and working on small projects.

The locals, however, had a different opinion.

When they learned I bought the property, some of them became strangely quiet.

One older man at the nearby gas station finally asked me:

Near the back of the journal, I found a hand-drawn map of the property.

Several locations were circled.

One of them was only a few hundred yards from my house.

The next morning, I followed the map.

I looked around the deer stand again.
