We built a family. We raised two children. We survived layoffs, illnesses, financial struggles, and every ordinary challenge that comes with a long marriage.

So when Daniel collapsed from a heart attack on a Tuesday evening, my entire world stopped.

I remember sitting beside him in the hospital, holding his hand as the machines became quieter.

I told him not to talk like that.

Vanessa smiled.
