Part 1: The Christmas Eve Truth

I drove to my ex-wife’s house on Christmas Eve carrying enough anger to drown out every good memory we had ever shared. For months I had convinced myself that Emily had already replaced me, that another man was living the life I had once thrown away, and I came prepared to confront him. Instead, the moment I stepped inside, I found a newborn baby sleeping peacefully in her living room, and everything I believed about my past collapsed in an instant.

The house was quiet except for the soft glow of Christmas lights reflecting across baby bottles, folded blankets, and half-finished cups of tea. Emily looked exhausted, yet the fear in her eyes was impossible to ignore. Before I could ask another question, three firm knocks echoed through the front door.
