Part 1: The Conversation That Ended My Wedding

The evening before my wedding, I stopped by my future mother-in-law’s estate for what I expected would be a short celebratory visit. Vivian Hale welcomed me with champagne beneath the enormous crystal chandeliers she proudly reminded every guest had been imported from Venice. Everything about the evening felt polished and elegant until she casually asked whether I had already signed the revised prenuptial agreement.

“I’ll review it tonight,” I replied.

Her smile faded almost imperceptibly.

“Ethan said you already agreed.”

“I agreed to consider it.”

Vivian held my gaze for a moment before answering, “Marriage requires trust.”
