“Mom… maybe you should just… give her the house. Please. For Ethan. For us.”

“Let go of me,” I managed, wrenching free.

“Who are you, anyway?” Sarah demanded. “Some social worker busybody?”

“I know. I love you, too.”
Three months later, the truth came out fully. Sarah had murdered her first husband, set fire to the house, and collected insurance. She had tried the same thing with another elderly man before she met Kevin. They found evidence of her embezzling from the man she’d intended to marry for his money.
Sarah was convicted, sentenced to serve twenty-five years to life.
