“Let her see what she lost,” Vivian said.
But Clara had not lost herself.
On the afternoon of the wedding, guests gathered at a private coastal resort outside Charleston. White flowers covered the garden. A string quartet played softly near the fountain. The Prescott name glittered from every detail without needing to be spoken.
Then a black SUV stopped near the entrance.
Clara stepped out.
She wore an ivory dress, simple but elegant, with her hair pinned softly behind her shoulders. She looked calm. Strong. Beautiful in a way that did not ask permission.
Beside her were three four-year-old children.
Two boys and one little girl.
Oliver, Miles, and Rose.
They had Julian’s brown hair, Julian’s serious eyes, and even the same small dimple near the left cheek that Julian had as a child.
The music faded.
Guests turned.
Vivian went pale.
Julian stood at the altar in his wedding suit and could not move.
Rose looked up at Clara, then pointed toward Julian.
“Mommy… is that the daddy we came to find?”
The entire garden went silent.
The Wedding That Never Happened

Brooke looked at the children first.
Then she looked at Julian.
She understood before anyone explained.
“Did you know?” she asked quietly.
Julian’s voice almost disappeared. “No. I swear I didn’t.”
